According to its website, Verba Mundi (a David R. Godine imprint) "showcases some of the finest literature in translation." Obviously I will definitely be pulling some of my reading selections from their site! David R. Godine is a small publishing house located in Boston, and was founded in 1970 by Mr. Godine. Publishing about twenty to thirty titles a year, its list of publications seems to be a definite reflection on his personal interest in showing initiative in the industry.
I'm currently looking at their publication (sorry, yes, another French author, bear with me) "Life A User's Manual" by Georges Perec, which the Boston Globe called "one of the greatest novels of the century." I can't pass this up, folks. Apparently it takes one moment in time-8:00 p.m. on June 23, 1975 in a Parisian apartment to be exact- and completely dissects it for all the individuals implicated both in Paris and around the world. I am quite excited. Verba Mundi's little blerb on this gem is quite compelling: "From the confessions of a racing cyclist to the plans of an avenging murderer, from a young ethnographer obsessed with a Sumatran tribe to the death of a trapeze artist, from the fears of an ex-croupier to the dreams of a sex-change pop star to an eccentric English millionaire"..... wow.
